ReadyBoost is a Widows Features which was introduced with Windows Vista but drastically improved in Windows 7. ReadyBoost enables you to use USB drive, SD cards to act as RAM to your system which improve your system performance. This feature is useful when your system is not having enough RAM. In Windows 8, Ready Boost can now handle up to Eight Flash Memory Devices simultaneously.
ReadyBoost is designed to help when your PC’s memory is running low. Low memory can make your computer sluggish because Windows, which needs a place to stash data, turns to the hard drive. Flash memory offers a speedier alternative.
How To Turn On ReadyBoost
Step 1: Add your USB Flash memory
you don’t need to format your USB drive to use it as RAM Ready Boost just uses the remaining space. Just connect your Flash Device to your PC.Step 2: Open Option
when you plug your USB device your system detects it and a pop up if it does not appear then Click on ‘Computer’ then Right-Click on your flash drive. Now click on ‘Properties’ tab Click Speed up my ‘system’ .
Step 3: Dedicate your Flash Memory
In the AutoPlay box, Click ‘Speed up my system’. Then in the ‘properties’ box click on ‘Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost’ then OK. You can add more USB devices (up to eight in windows 8) to increase the performance. It’s like adding more RAM to your system. Simply repeat the same process to all the other Flash devices.
How To Turn Off ReadyBoost
You can turn off ReadyBoost if don’t want. Click on ‘computer’ then right click on your flash device and click on Properties>ReadyBoost>Do not use this device’ you can now use your USB drive to store files and other stuffs.
